16.07.2008
      July 16th 2008, was a historic day for Holy Cross College of Education.
            In the morning a special Eucharistic  service was offered to express our gratitude to the Almighty.  A simple Inaugural function was held in the presence of Rev. Sr. Lourdhu, Provincial, Rev. Dr.Sr. Jesuin Francis, Superior, Rev. Dr. Sr. Sarguna, Principal of Holy Cross College and Rev. Dr.Sr. Marsiana, Principal of Holy Cross College of Education for Women.

06.08.2008
                        To bring the hidden talents of the students to the fore, we had an Inaugural celebration of the various groups on 6th August.  All the group members participated and showed their talents in mime, drama, dance and so on.  Rev. Sr. Marsiana was the chief guest and she appreciated the students for their splendid performance.

09.08.2008
                        The staff and students of B.Ed., College joined the Holy Cross members on 9th August, to wish the community sisters on the special day of the congregation feast.  Our students gave a marvellous dance performance for the Holy Cross community sisters.

11.08.2008
           To develop the leadership quality and co-operation among the students, they had an election on 11th August and  their President and Secretaries were elected.  Miss. Nancy was elected as President, Miss. Sherly as Vice-President, Miss. Kanaga as Fine Arts Secretary and Miss. Premalatha as Sports Secretary.  The students were divided into four Houses  which were named after the great women who served  the country.  The names of the Houses are Mother Teresa, Kiran Bedi, Sunitha Williams and Medha Patker. For each House a house Captain was elected.

The names of the captains of the four houses are as follows:
Miss. Breen Vadhani is captain of Mother Theresa House
Miss. P. Selva Meena is captain of Kiran Bedi House
Miss. Saral Kalaimani is captain of Sunitha Williams House
Mrs. M. Deepana is captain of Medha Patker House

            Independence Day – a day on which we pay homage to all the great leaders who sacrificed themselves to relieve us from our bondage, was celebrated in our premises to instill the spirit of patriotism in the young minds. One of our staff Mrs. Evangeline delivered an inspiring speech on, the achievements of India.

05.09.2008
            Our college celebrated Investiture Ceremony and Teachers day on 5th September 2008.  In a colourful ceremony the newly elected leaders were empowered to serve the college with love and dedication.  Mrs. Bavani, Asst., Commissioner of Police presided over the ceremony.  All the leaders took oath with enthusiasm and vigour.  Our Principal Rev. Sr. Marsiana put the sash, Rev.Dr.Sr. Jesuin Francis, Superior gave the badge and the President gave the flag to the leaders and her speech was a motivation for the students to achieve and to excel

            Teachers day –is a time for the students to remember the teachers who helped them scale greater heights. Our students exhibited their talents through various activities like skit, dance, song and poem about the teachers which made the teachers, feel proud of their students.
            To broaden the spectrum of students knowledge and sharpen their insight, a quiz contest was conducted and the winners were awarded prizes.  The teachers’ day was celebrated in a meaningful manner.

            In connection with the social awareness a seminar was conducted by Mr. Stephen on 6th September, who motivated the students to get interested in peoples welfare and render services to the society.
            An eminent person Mr. Balakrishnan, the former Vice-Principal and HOD of the English Department of St. Joseph’s College gave a lecture about the usage of English in the daily life, for our students.  This was followed by a lecture about AIDS programme given by Mr.Lawrence. He explained how to find out AIDS and prevent it.   The students were inspired to create awareness about AIDS in villages.
            We strike a chord with the students to motivate them to be cognizant and conscious of the fact that our country’s economic prosperity and development of villages rest on our power of knowledge and co-operation alone.  In order to inculcate the qualities of helping people, students and staff visited Pallividai village and rendered service to the people.  The students were divided into groups and spoke about Aids, Health, Welfare and Cleanliness to the people.  The students cleansed the gutter and the streets.  Then they conducted competitions for the school students and distributed the prizes.  Some student teachers gave programmes for the students and the villagers.  The headmaster of the school, who was the president of the function, was happy and advised  the students to become authentic teachers.
            Experiences help in gaining knowledge.  To gain knowledge in teaching practice, students were given explanation about ABL(Activity Board Learning) method by two teachers who were the resource persons.   Our students learnt the procedures in detail and prepared themselves for teaching practice.

26.09.2008 & 27.09.2008
            As a diversion from rigorous desk work, the students were taken on a study tour to various places of interest like Cochin, Trissur, Malampuzha Dam and Amala Cancer Institute in Kerala on 26th and 27th  September.  This trip provided practical knowledge, direct experience and a sense of fulfillment for the students. These enriching experiences left lasting impressions on the young minds.

07.10.2008
            On 7th October our students were prepared to start their teaching practice.  On the eve of this day, we the staff prayed for the blessings of God for their successful teaching practice in various schools.  Our students had their teaching practice in various schools like  St. Joseph’s Anglo Indian Girls’ Hr. Sec. School, Holy Cross Girls’ Hr.Sec.School – Fort, Holy Cross Girls’ Hr. Sec. School – Ponmalai, St. Anne’s Girls’ Hr. Sec. School – Trichy, St. Anne’s High School – Lalgudi, St. Joseph’s Hr. Sec. School – Vadugarpet, Infant Jesus Hr. Sec. School – Thuvakudi, Srirangam Girls’ Hr. Sec. School - Srirangam, National Hr. Sec. School – Trichy, Adi-Dravida Hr. Sec. School – Trichy and Urmu Dhanalakshmi Vidhyalaya, Trichy,  They were trained to be efficient educators and they gained knowledge about the psychological nature of the students.  During their teaching practice they learnt to conduct prayer service, organize programmes and culturals for the students. 

10.10.2008 – 14.12.2008
The duration for teaching practice was, from 10th October to 14th December.

15.12.2008
            All the students came back to the college after their teaching practice on 15th December.  They shared their experiences when they met. A continuous and comprehensive evaluation of academic performances are done through written examinations.  Projects and assignments are part of their regular work.

17.12.2008
            Christmas is a season of sharing, the time when God gave His only son to save humanity whom He loved the most.  The students put up a spectacular show on 17th December to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

19.12.2008 & 20.12.2008
            Learning should not be confined to the text book and class room teaching alone.  While the teacher is a facilitator of knowledge, Nature is the provider of experience. Students should not be alienated from nature – the best teacher.  To support this fact, on 19th and 20th December Dr.Devanathan, Head of the Dept. of Educational Technology from Bharathidasan University, gave a lecture on Indian and Western Philosophy.  Our students benefitted from his lecture.

            We had a brain storming session with Dr.Ms. Lethi, Reader in Zoology, Holy Cross College on 20th December.  Our students had the chance to assess themselves through a questionnaire and benefitted from this programme.

13.01.2009
                        Pongal celebration was held on 13th January in a simple manner.  To worship the Creator of nature and to honour the farmers a prayer service was conducted  with an attitude of gratitude.  We remembered and prayed for their welfare.

26.01.2009
            Republic Day was celebrated with a meaningful prayer followed by a skit which depicted the unity towards which we have to march in future.

29.01.2009 – 31.01.2009
            Healthy competition is an incentive to learn and achieve.  In our pursuit of nurturing and nourishing artistic talents, we organized Inter House talents competitions like foot notes, group dance, creative item from the Bible, Skit in Tamil and English,  debate, mehandi, painting, collage, wealth out of waste, tableau, mime, rangoli, singing, among the four houses.  The competitions were held from 29th to 31st January 2009.  The students were encouraged to participate in all the competitions.
            To build healthy relationships and to bring the students closer to one another athletic events such as running, shortput, long jump, discus, throw ball,  kho kho and dodge ball were also conducted among the four houses.  The students were happy to participate in all the competitions.
            We prepare the students to face the challenges of the hyper competitive world.  True intelligence is the right combination of the emotional quotient.  Our students were successful to get placement in various institutions. Shree Saraswathi Vidhyaah Mandheer School, Mettupalayam provided offer letters to 7 students, Gopikrishna High School, Kadappa, Andrapradesh gave offer letters to 2 students and R.R. Cambridge, Villupuram to 10 students.  We are very happy to see the excellence and uniqueness in teaching competencies of our students.

SEMINAR ATTENDED BY A LECTURER & TWO STUDENTS
            As a step to go ahead with the quality assurance, mode of function in teaching and evaluation, our staff Mrs. Electa and students Mrs. Jeyarani and Miss.Sherly attended a conference on “Quality Assurance-Approaches, apprehensions, issues and innovations” sponsored by NAAC on 6th and 7th March 2009, at Annammal College of Education for women, Tuticorin. They were benefitted by the methodology of teaching and innovative pedagogical practices for quality assurance.

WORK SHOP ATTENDED BY THE LECTURER
Mr. Suresh a Lecturer in Computer science attended a workshop “Intel Teach program” conducted by NCTE from 23rd March to 28th March at Oxford College of Education at Karumandapam.

COLLEGE DAY
We had a grand celebration of our First College Day. Thiru K.N. Nehru Hon’ble minister for transport consented to preside over the function, but due to unavoidable reasons he was not able to come. Mr. Soundaiah, the collector of Trichy presided over the function and by inspiring speech he motivated the student teachers to work hard and to aspire for various job opportunities which will be available.
Rev. Sr. Lourdu, Our provincial, Rev. Sr.Jeusin our correspondent and Rev. Sr.Sarguna, the Principal of Holy Cross College were present. Prizes for the high scorers in various subjects, winners in games and in talent competitions were awarded. The annual report was presented using power point. Variety entertainments by the student teachers were greatly appreciated. The function ended with the national anthem.

PSYCHOLOGY PROGRAMME ATTENDED BY A LECTURER
            Sr. Catherine, Lecturer in Psychology attended a programme on “Basic Research Methods and application of SPSS” (SPSS statistics server 17.0) from April 16th to 18th 2009 at “Sona School of Management” in Salem.

ISSUE OF B.ED APPLICATIONS FOR THE YEAR 2009-2010
Applications were issued for B.Ed., course from Holy Cross College of Education.
Attested Xerox copies of the X, XII, Certificates, Degree Certificates, Mark sheets of  B.A., B.Sc., M.A., M.Sc. and M.Com., T.C and Community Certificate should be submitted along with the filled in application form on or before 22nd  June 2009.

VALEDICTORY FUNCTION
The valedictory function was held on 13th June 2009. The reports of the associations were presented. Many student teachers participated in the variety entertainment.

15.06.2009
FAREWELL PROGRAMME
            At the farewell, the students appreciated and praised the lecturers for their dedicated service and presented them with bouquets as a token of their gratitude. The management presented the student teachers momentous. The farewell function ended on a solemn note with a memorable prayer service.

24.06.2009
            The commission for the Public Practical Examination was arraned by the Tamil Nadu Education University, Chennai. Mr.S.K.Paneer Selvam (Convenor), Lecturer in Education, D.D.E. Bharathidasan University, Trichy. Mr.S.Raj Mohan Lecturer in History, Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Education, Perambalur, came as External Examiners. They assessed the teaching of the students and also their teaching aids, records and models and appreciated their hard work.

            The results were published and the mark sheets were sent. The percentage of pass in 93. The marks obtained by the student teachers are given below.
